Can You Show Me When It Changed?
This is a pretty simple question. And, as everyone who managed to pass a basic high school science class knows, when you do something that changes what has been happening than because of that change you can see a difference. When you turn or flip the light-switch, the light either goes on or off (or for dimmer switches may just get brighter or dimmer). When you throw a ball up into the air, it goes up, slows down, stops, changes direction, and comes back down faster and faster.
At some point, the phenomenon that actions are related to the effects that they have under the concept of “Cause and Effect”. Even people who did not go to high school or take a science class come across this concept and understand it is a general principle in our world/reality. Children learn it without every knowing that they learned the concept. Drop something it falls. Put you hand into the fire and it gets burned. Cut your finger with the scissors/knife and the finger bleeds. We’ve all learned the lessons.
So, when people say that they like the way that things changed because of what President Trump did when he was in office, there will be the same kind of “cause and effect” relationships. We can look at appropriate information/data and we will see where the ‘action’ had its ‘effect’.
Now since everyone is always talking about the “Economy” and that it was better because of Trump, there must therefore be a change or changes that occurred because of the actions that were taken. This offers an interesting opportunity to do simple tests. What we are testing is whether people even know what they are talking about. Whether the people are Republicans or Democrats or neither of those, the answers to simple questions may indicate if the claims that they make are based on confirmable data. Let’s give this a try. Here are two simple questions, and all you need to do is indicate what the change that was made was and when it shows up in the data.
