Whether you are aware that there is a big political debate at this moment I don’t know. But I doubt that you are thinking or hearing about what the right decision around the issue ought to be. Yes, I am referring to whether President Biden should continue his run for president or whether he should choose to decide not to run. The debate centers around the “Age” issue that has been prevalent for both parties’ candidates since the last campaign. But Biden’s performance in the first debate amplified the issue, especially for him.  There are numerous views, opinions, and assessment around the question of should Biden continue to run. There isn’t anything wrong with asking about the issue, but as is almost always the case everyone thinks too narrowly, too one-dimensionally, too much in a non-critical thinking manner; including I would assert Pres. Biden himself.

There is an aspect of the issue which doesn’t directly have to do with his age but with the fact that the “Age” issue will not be resolved nor settled because it can’t be. That issue will persist regardless of everything that transpires between now and the election. The “Age” issue will be used and referred to in relation to every other issue. In a sense, it has had and will continue to have a “confirmation bias” impact on every individual’s view.

However, there is an opportunity for Pres. Biden that would serve him and his legacy well. He could choose to withdraw from the campaign to remove this issue from the election landscape and to do so to help ensure that his objective goals are attained: that Trump is defeated, democracy is preserved, and his legacy in history is secured. He can demonstrate his patriotism to America over political office, his wisdom to see how to remove a distraction issue so that substantive issues can be the focus of the Democrats’ campaigns, and he can still work to defeat Trump which will be not just satisfying but help save America.

It's a Solomon moment, a John Paul Jones moment, and a John F. Kennedy moment. It would be a shame to miss the opportunity. All it takes is to see the moment for what it is, and seize the day.
